Maritime Medical Guides provides a continuum of maritime medical preparedness — combining training, continuing education, practical equipment, and telehealth support to help mariners adventure well.
The Problem
Medical emergencies at sea rarely look like emergencies on land. Navigation, weather, vessel motion, delayed evacuation, communication, and limited resources all complicate decision-making — which is why maritime medicine requires a different mindset.
Preparation is the key.
What We Do
Founded from humble beginnings in the cabin of a 27-foot sailboat named Breezy, Maritime Medical Guides has grown alongside the journeys that shaped it — from early coastal teaching aboard an Alajuela 38- Lucia, to today’s expedition-based training on the Frers 58 yacht Swiftsure.
Through each chapter, the mission has stayed the same: helping mariners build the medical knowledge, judgment, and hands-on skills needed to adventure safely on the water.
Maritime Medical Guides is the seafaring branch of Backcountry Medical Guides, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing accredited, sport-specific medical education for outdoor communities.
