Our host, the Spaulding Center, works to restore vessels to active use while sharing maritime history and culture with the community. We’ll utilize their dock and boats to practice skills.

Whether you are spending time cruising, racing, day sailing, or offshore; our Advanced First Aid/ CPR For Mariners will prepare you for your next adventure. Combining a highly experiential in-person training with our self-paced Maritime Medicine Online course, this program provides all the skills practice and knowledge needed to handle a range of medical and traumatic emergencies at sea. This class is US Sailing accredited, meets World Sailing Offshore Special Regulation (OSR 6.05) Medical Training requirements, US Sailing Senior First Aid Requirements, is valid for US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner credentials, and can be used to recertify a Wilderness First Responder certificate within its grace period.


 
 
  • • Basic and Advanced First Aid for Mariners certification, valid for 2 years

    • CPR: AED Adult/ Child/ Infant, valid for 2 years

    • Wilderness First Responder-Refresher for those holding a current WFR Certification or within 1 year of expiration, valid for 2 years.

    Accreditations Include:

    • World Sailing Offshore Special Regulation (OSR 6.05) Medical Training requirement

    • US Sailing Senior First Aid Requirement

    USCG: The standards of the American National Red Cross Standard First Aid or American National Red Cross Community First Aid & Safety courses and satisfies the First Aid training requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(i)(1)(ii) for a merchant mariner credential; AND The standards of the American National Red Cross or the American Heart Association for CPR courses and satisfies the CPR training requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(i)(2)(iii) for a merchant mariner credential. This course does not satisfy the requirements for training, standards of competence, or practical assessment required by the STCW Code, as amended 2010, for any STCW endorsement.

  • • Manage risk through pre trip planning and preventative techniques: first aid kits, pre-trip medical assessments, travel medicine, telemedicine.

    • Assess and treat life threatening emergencies: CPR, patient assessment, airway management, hemorrhage control, shock, and stabilization.

    • Practice common trauma management techniques: Wounds and fractures, head injuries, neck and spine injuries, blunt trauma, burns, dental and eye traumas.

    • Develop important judgment skills for the assessment and evacuation of medical and environmental emergencies at sea: hypothermia, heat illness, marine animal bites and stings, dive emergencies, lightning at sea, cardiac and respiratory emergencies, diabetes, seizures, anaphylaxis.

  • Day 1: 8:00AM - 3:30PM

    Day 2: 8:00AM - 3:30PM 

    *Note: the itinerary is fluid and is subject to change for safety and weather/environmental factors including wind, rain/snow, Air Quality Index, trail closures, traffic considerations, etc.

  • The class will be held on the docks of the Richardson Bay. You will need to be able to get on and off the dock unassisted. The skills that are taught in this course require the ability to get up and down from the ground, kneeling, squatting, and some lifting. Please contact MMG if you would like more information about fitness requirements.

  • This course is held rain or shine and will require clothing suited for any weather. The following is a list of gear you will need to bring with you:

    • Hat (sun hat or warm hat)

    • Sun glasses

    • Gloves

    • Sunscreen

    • Rain jacket

    • Warm layers

    • Appropriate footwear for a boat

    • Water bottle

    • Food for lunch and snacks (lunch is not provided during the course)

    ***Notebooks are optional, a manual with lecture notes is provided at the beginning of the course and can be used to take notes.

LOCATION OVERVIEW

Sausalito, CA is located across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. This area is rich with culture and opportunities to be on the water. We are partnering with the Spaulding Center for this course and will be operating from their dock.
